Target Selection Page

The target selection page is very similar to the source selection page. Note that the first two options are dimmed because Data Port Wizard does not support Microsoft Access to SQL Server data conversions (these are already supported by these products).

When selecting the device option for SQL Compact databases, a "Device timeout" selector will be displayed. This value determines how much time the desktop will wait for a device to reply. This is important when exporting or importing very large databases, especially when indexes and constraints are being created. Here we select one minute (default is 10 seconds).

In order to communicate with a Windows CE or Windows Mobile device, Data Port Wizard needs to install a device component. If the Wizard detects that this component is not installed yet, the following dialog will be displayed. Click the "Yes" button to proceed.

Next, you will have to select the target device type (both operating system type and CPU). Consult your device's user manual for this information (for Windows Mobile 6.1 devices, please select either the Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.0 option).

After installing the device component, you will be presented with the target database selection / creation dialog. You can either enter the database file name directly or click the "..." button to display the file selection dialog.

Depending on the location of the SQL Compact database, the file selection dialog box will vary in format. Below you see the file selection dialog for a remote device when creating a new database file.

After selecting the file name, press the "OK" button to return to the previous dialog:

To specify additional database properties, click the "Properties" tab.

When ready, click the "OK" button to return to the target selection page.

You can now move on to the schema selection page by clicking the "Next" button.
