HOWTO: Install the device component
The device component is a small DLL file that must be present on all connected devices in order to serve a remote connection. This file is not automatically installed by Data Port Console and so you must make sure it is present before you attempt a connection via ActiveSync or WMDC.

Installing the device component is very easy:

  1. Make sure you install either ActiveSync (on Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (on Windows Vista). Both are freely downloadable from Microsoft.
  2. Connect your device to the PC in a way that the ActiveSync (or WMDC) connection is recognized.
  3. Select the Tools / Device Installer menu option:

  4. On the Device Install dialog, select the connected platform and click the Install button.

Note: The Windows Mobile 5.0 device component is compatible with Windows Mobile 6.0
